Questions Engaged Couples Ask About Pre-Cana Online
Yes. Online Pre-Cana is a growing format for engaged couples, particularly where in-person parish classes are infrequent, distance separates the couple, or work schedules make evenings difficult. The Pre-Cana Course is priest-led, taken at home, at your own pace, and shared between you and your fiancé through one couple account. When you finish, you receive a certificate of completion to share with your parish.
We always recommend confirming with your priest before enrolling — and we’re glad to provide any documentation or course details your clergy may need to evaluate the program. Final approval rests with your parish.
Most engaged couples complete the eight modules of Pre-Cana online in two to four weeks, working through 30 to 45 minutes per module together. The course is fully self-paced — you can finish in a single weekend if you are pressed for time before the wedding, or stretch it over several months and let each conversation breathe. Lifetime access is included, so you can return to the modules after the wedding, during your first year together, or whenever a particular question comes up again.
Most parishes ask couples to begin marriage preparation between six months and one year before the wedding, and Pre-Cana itself should ideally be completed no later than six weeks before the ceremony. Starting earlier gives you space to think, pray, and revisit difficult conversations without the wedding logistics crowding in. If your wedding is sooner than that, the Pre-Cana Course is still useful — you can complete it in a few focused sessions and bring the certificate to your priest before the rehearsal.
Acceptance varies by diocese. Many parishes welcome structured priest-led online formation — especially for couples separated by distance, military families, demanding work schedules, or those preparing for convalidation. Some accept it on its own; others pair it with a single in-person meeting. Share the course outline with your priest before enrolling. The course is taught by Rev. George Boronat, a Catholic priest who has walked with hundreds of engaged couples through marriage preparation. Each of the eight modules opens with a teaching video filmed for this course, followed by Scripture, reflection prompts, and structured couple discussions. The priest-led tone runs through the whole formation — there is no third-party curriculum behind it. A priest is teaching, and you are walking with him, even though you are at home.
Your certificate of completion is generated automatically once you finish all course modules and both partners have completed the final reflection. You can download it as a PDF from your account at any time after that — it includes both names, the course name, the completion date, and a signed verification line for your parish.
